About supervision

"Supervision is a process of developing professionals as reflective practitioners. It is a creative space in which a professional, through collaboration and partnership with the supervisor,

  • learns from their own experiences and seeks personal solutions to challenges at work,

  • deals with stress more effectively,

  • and views the beneficiaries situation and resources, as well as their own thoughts, feelings, resources, and relationship with the beneficiary from different perspectives.

By integrating various aspects of professional situations, the supervisee develops as a professionally competent individual.

In this way, supervision ensures the quality of professionals’ work with beneficiaries of psychosocial services."

To me, supervision is like this picture of a colourful, layered reflection in the water. We stand in the safe and calm environment of supervision and look at how reality reflects within us. With the support of the supervisor and the group, we open our inner eye and explore the different layers, colours, and textures within ourselves and others. We move with curiosity and allow ourselves to be vulnerable. As our perspective broadens and becomes enriched, new insights and pathways are revealed, and we become ready to move toward change in a new, different, and authentic way.

My first encounter with supervision dates back to 1997, during my second year at university, as part of my field practice in the MPPI program, which focused on the prevention of behavioural problems. Thanks to my involvement in that and later in other programs, during the first decade of my professional development I participated in weekly supervisions. That experience greatly contributed to the development of my professional competences and the formation of my professional identity, and I am endlessly grateful to all my supervisors and metasupervisors who helped me explore and discover my professional self.

I love facilitating supervision in different sectors and creating space for genuine encounters. It is important to me that professionals receive the kind of support I once had, and that supervisees feel safe when reflecting on their successes as well as their possible mistakes. I am always glad when creative techniques find their place in the supervision process. I know that my role is simply to guide the process, and it moves me deeply to witness how group dynamics develop and when the group becomes a special island to which everyone gladly returns, and where, over time, they almost no longer need me.

Supervision through my lens

Supervision can take place individually or in a group of 6–8 supervisees from the same or different organisations. Typically, the group meets with a supervisor every three weeks for three hours. It is recommended to hold 10–16 group sessions to ensure a high-quality group process.

Supervision can be financed either by the professionals themselves or by their organisation. The Croatian Association for Supervision and Coaching has defined the minimum rate for one hour of supervision as 50 euros.

The supervisor and the group or organisation agree on the frequency, number of participants, workspace, confidentiality, price, and other specific details during the contracting process.

Metasupervision is provided to supervisors to support them in their supervisory role and can be organised either individually or in groups.

Metasupervision can be financed either by the professionals themselves or by their organisation. The Croatian Association for Supervision and Coaching has defined the minimum rate for one hour of metasupervision as 65 euros.

Metasupervisor and supervisor(s) agree on the frequency, workspace, price, and other specific details during the contracting process.
